Marketing Manager – Outdoor Events
Location: Seattle, WA (remote-friendly with some local travel)
Hours: Around 15–30 per week
Compensation: $23/hr starting pay, with discretionary bonuses and pay raises based on individual and company performance

About the Role
MerGeo is seeking a Marketing Manager to lead outreach and engagement for our outdoor event series and services, including:
- Northwest Trail Runs (trail running series)
- Northwest Nav Races (cross country navigation races in natural areas)
- Street Scramble (urban adventure races)
- Plus private events and educational offerings
We’re looking for someone who’s connected to the active outdoor sports community, is comfortable working independently, and enjoys building relationships and representing our brand. You’ll manage communications across digital platforms, pursue partnerships, and help shape how our events are presented.
Core Responsibilities
- Promote MerGeo events and increase participation
- Serve as the public voice of MerGeo on social media
- Respond to customer messages, coordinating with staff as needed
- Identify and evaluate promotional opportunities, presenting pros/cons
- Create marketing materials (online and print) and deploy them effectively
- Submit events to online and print calendars and track presence
- Build and maintain sponsor relationships and ensure obligations are met
- Write clear and compelling messages for both current participants and potential customers
- Create and update website content, including text, images, and layout
- Contribute to event scheduling and other presentation-related decisions
Reporting Structure
You’ll report directly to the Owner and work closely with the Event Manager and Event Director, while also coordinating with the Data Manager and other team members.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong writing skills and command of English
- Active involvement in the trail running, navigation, or orienteering communities
- Ability to evaluate opportunities and prioritize based on potential impact
- Comfortable tracking your own work and coordinating tasks with others
- Organized enough to manage tasks that require months of lead time
- Computer proficiency, including spreadsheets (Excel or similar), blogging tools, online forms (no coding needed), and basic web publishing
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with WordPress
- Graphic design skills using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar
- Experience with DSLR photography at events or willingness to learn
- Interest in course marking, with strong map literacy, visual/spatial skills, and comfort working alone outdoors

Seattle-based MerGeo produces events that encourage people to explore the outdoors—from 4K trail runs to 24-hour navigation races. We welcome beginners while offering challenges to seasoned outdoor athletes. We’re passionate about getting people outside, whether in the woods or in the city.
Our office is located in Magnuson Park, and our events are spread throughout the Puget Sound area and occasionally across Washington State. While this role can be performed primarily from home, occasional travel to event venues or partner meetings is expected. Schedules are flexible and depend on event timing.
